Sheraaj Vermeulen

I have benefited enormously from the Communiversity of South Africa! Here I discovered a love for maths via the excellent way our maths facilitator Ms. Lititia Van Neel taught us. I also grew fond of engineering science (taught by Mr. Daniel Meyer) that covered a great deal of physics, something I had never done in school and would’ve never done otherwise. I’ve learned valuable entrepreneurship skills from the Ready to Work program (taught by Mr. Zakariyyah Landsman), lessons that I have now rolled into my own little business that continuously grows from strength to strength. In addition, I now hold a First Aid certificate that strengthens my CV and chances of good future employment.

A life skill I’ve also learned was how to surf — something I’ve always wanted do but never got to it, due to always being occupied. Thank you, Jessica! A big thank you also to the executive directors and founders Dr. Melanie Brown and Marcia Abrahams for granting me the opportunity to start my little entrepreneurship business on campus. It has been growing steadily ever since! The Communiversity taught me that one should always strive towards being better, no matter your age or education. I didn’t expect to come out third in our class after eight years of being out of a learning institution. It just shows you are never too old to learn!

I met a diverse group of people at Communiversity, and was able to learn about other races and cultures. I have learned a lot from the different subjects and also hands-on skills that I am able to apply in my daily life to aid and assist myself and others around me. It was not only an honour to participate in this program, but it was also greatly beneficial to me. Thank you, Communiversity of South Africa!
