Abubaker Samodien

I graduated from high school in 2020 and received a Bachelor’s Pass. I applied to various universities and colleges but these colleges rejected my application because either they were full or because of my maths Matric results. That’s when I applied to Communiversity because I so badly wanted to further my education. After all my documents were processed, I received a message saying that I have an interview with one of the facilitators. I was accepted, and I was so glad and happy because I knew this was a chance to become a step closer to my dreams. When starting at Communiversity, I found out that I would receive a bursary worth R15,000, and I began crying because I knew the value of that money and that my parents don’t have that kind of money. I started asking myself, “Am I worth so much money, even when I am not giving out a cent?” I was told to make the best out of this opportunity, knowing nobody is prepared to give so much money to a stranger. I grabbed the opportunity with both hands and promised to myself to work hard and make the community proud — which I believe I have done.

At the Communiversity, I have found a new family that I have joined, a family that is loving and caring. I was introduced to new subjects like math(s) literacy, engineering science, basic economics, debating, work preparation– and many other subjects. These courses were filled with laughter and hard work. The facilitators were all amazing and loving. They made me understand that there is a bigger world out there. I can’t believe all the things I have accomplished. I am able to work a computer,
I am able to solve math(s) problems. I have also learned something totally new and that was Transcendental Meditation. The feeling of meditating is so awesome. I just can’t put it into words.

I have grown so much. I am typing this letter with tears running down my cheeks with great sadness, just thinking about saying goodbye. My goal is to pursue my dreams and aspirations. All I want to do is help people the same way you are doing by empowering young adults like me togain a much better future. I am grateful for this gift of life. I am grateful for the opportunity to study at Communiversity. I am grateful for you, your money that you have invested in me, and I just want you to know that it didn’t go to waste.

I want to thank the Almighty for you, that our paths have crossed. If there is no better way of showing my appreciation, I pray that God bless the work you are doing. I pray that he answers all your prayers and always guides and protects you and your family, amen.

I have enjoyed every session with the Communiversity — from the moments of hard work to the moments where we laugh and cry. I am sitting here typing this email with

joy, happiness and tears in my eyes. I am sitting as a proud Communiversity student, knowing that I have achieved so many things during this course. My heart goes out to every single one involved with Communiversity and all I can say is: “Thank you so much for everything that you have done for me. I will never forget this amazing opportunity. I will recommend others to join the Communiversity and be a part of this beautiful journey where they can achieve and accomplish so many things.”

Thank you so much with so much love coming from Abubaker!
