Yandisa Yadz

My name is Yandisa, a young man who came all the way from Eastern Cape, a man who classifies himself as a go-getter who believes in his dreams and is eager to learn from others. I came to Cape Town in 2009 for school but as time went by, I found myself doing some wrong things and almost forgot about my vision for getting a good education. My family tried warning me but I didn’t listen at first. Then I got some “ tough love”. I started getting focused on the good things I had dreamt of and I pushed myself hard until high school. I wanted to become a lawyer but then years went by and I next fell in love with the food industry. I decided I would study professional cookery as my first choice and then law as my second choice.

I was still determined but sadly, in 2017, when I matriculated, I received the matric exam results and they were not good enough for me to go to a university. I then tried False Bay TVET College to get into their hospitality program but I did not get accepted. As an experienced hustler, I did not give up and continued applying to other private institutions but the fees were just too much for me.

And then finally, I went to The Communiversity of South Africa. What a place it is! My confidence totally increased, the caring staff motivated the students in such a way that we all became a family. I was asked about what I wanted to be and do in life. One of the staff helped me to have a shift of mind and suggested I try business studies as a start because I’m not afraid of new things.

Now I am currently studying business at a local college, and I like it as a first step. The Communiversity of South Africa helped me make some good decisions, and they are still helping me even though I am now a graduate. They made it possible for me to do diploma studies while I qualify for higher certificate programs, and I’m so very grateful to everyone there.
